Jaco P Ft. Lauderdale, Florida
This was taken around 1973 (as best that I can recall) on assignment for CBS Records. Jaco and I did this photo session in his apartment in Ft. Lauderdale.
Since this has been posted here for quite some time, an odd bit of web chatter has ensued on a Jaco web site regarding the garrish and somewhat over the top red eyes of the bass meister in the above image. In the spirit of political correctness and with respect to Jaco and his family I have subsequently gone back into the Diamond Mine to see exactly how his eyes came to be so red ( at least how much I had to do with it)
So here is the scoop .......The original
chrome's saturation was boosted by me at some point ..seen here 
Then I subtracted the color from everywhere except his eyes which rendered the image above which stirred the modicum of controversy and derision.
Had I not goosed the satuartion so much in the first place, the subtraction of the surrounding color wouldn't have yeilded such a startling bloodshot effect. The original looks more like this...
So make of it what you will , I have to assume JP would have a laugh at all of this and honestly this shot holds up in glorious black and white too.
